Petrified Forest, Arizona

I visited the Petrified Forest National Park while traveling through the eastern part of Arizona along Route 40.  I was on my way from Amarillo, TX to the Grand Canyon NP.  The Petrified Forest is an absolutely amazing place to visit.  Back about 200 million years ago this area was quite a bit more humid and tropical.  Large trees grew in the area that fell and were quickly buried.  Fast forward to today, and these trees are now fossilized (i.e., petrified).

I took several photos of the park, and this one is one of my favorites.  I used a process known as "Focus Staking" to get a large focal range.  I had recently purchased a new Canon EOS 5 camera and was desperate to try new things.
