Pelican Swimming in the Water -- Grand Teton National Park Landscape Photography Print (Copy)

My wife and I enjoy visiting National Parks around the country.  During 2024, we spent several weeks at the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NPs. I use opportunities such as these to enhance my portfolio of images I can offer. This particular image is one that my wife made from the lake in front of Mount Moran in the northern portion of the Tetons.

I had just upgraded my equipment to Canon's R5 system.  Taking advantage of this, my wife decided to use my previous system (Canon's 5D Mark IV) during our visit to the parks.  She had been using a mid-range Canon camera and found the 5D to be the perfect upgrade to advance her creativity. 

For this image, she coupled the camera with a 200-600 zoom lens and a sturdy tripod. I give her quite a bit credit for her patience and resolve. We were positioned in this location for about 2 hours to photograph the sunrise over Mount Moran. (I have an image taken the same day of the sun coming up showing the reds and blues on the horizon.)  I was wrapping up my session, but she saw the pelican and wanted to stick around a little longer. It took a while for the pelican to cooperate and present in a profile without other disturbances. I think she got this just right.  It's sharp, he is in profile, he appears by himself and shows movement with the waves behind him. She probably took about 30 or 40 images of this scene, and this is the only one with all those elements.
