Observation Tower -- Antietam National Battlefield

The Observation Tower at the Antietam National Battlefield was actually built in 1890 (i.e., long after the war was over) as a way for visitors to have a better view of the battlefield. The War Department wanted to preserve the landscapes of the battlefield but still allow a way to observe where the battle took place.
