As I was driving through Apache Junction on my way to the Lost Dutchman Trail at Superstition Mountain, I saw this old-time looking church. I stopped and took a few photos because I liked the scene. It was late in the afternoon, so the facility was closed at the time. This was fortuitous for me because there were no people, cars or other evidence this was not an old west type church.
Only afterwards, I learned it is called the Elvis Chapel. Back in 1969, Elvis Presley stared the movie Charro in which this chapel played a part. It was built as a movie prop, and the steeple was originally constructed to allow it to be blown off during the filming of the movie. Today, it belongs to the Superstition Mountain Museum and can be rented for weddings or other events.
To make this image, I stitched together 3 photos (in panoramic fashion) using Photoshop. This allows me to make very large prints with very high resolution.
